Scan package text into name or notes - nothing more
OCR in Smart Meds Reminder is a text helper. It returns raw recognized text into the name or notes field so you can review it - it does not build a clinical schedule for you.
In-app steps
- In Settings, confirm the OCR feature switch is on (enabled by default).
- Open Add medication and tap the OCR control on the name or notes field.
- Scan the package text with the on-device camera OCR flow.
- Accept the recognized string into that field only, then edit anything the camera misread.
- Still enter days, times, and other fields yourself before Save.
Limitations
- OCR never auto-fills structured dosage, form, or schedule fields.
- OCR is not a Premium gate; it is a Settings toggle.
- Always verify scanned text against the physical package.
Smart Meds Reminder is a medication reminder and log. It is not medical advice and does not replace a qualified clinician or pharmacist.
FAQ
Does OCR read my whole prescription into dose times?
No. Recognized text goes only into name or notes. You set schedule fields manually.
Is OCR on-device?
The scanner flow holds recognizedText from on-device OCR-style recognition. Review the string before you trust it.
Can I turn OCR off?
Yes. Settings includes an enable_ocr_feature switch.
